How can I book a tour?

Contact me and tell me when will you be in town, how long your tour should be, your transportation needs, your interests… so we can start figuring out your custom tour, shore excursion or daytrip.

When the details have been agreed, you’ll only need to send me a deposit to secure the tour/s and finalize the reservation.

Note that I cannot hold any date until the deposit has been sent.

Who will be joining my tour? Is there a limit on the number of people?

All my tours are private, for your party only. You are NOT part of a larger group and no strangers will be joining your tour.

à Note that if you wish to share the tour cost with other people you can organize your own “private group” using popular travel sites such as the Tripadvisor Forums or Cruisecritic. But you have to do it yourself: I don’t arrange such groups.

LIMIT NUMBERS:

*    Walking tours: My standard fees are calculated for upto 20 people. There is a supplement charged for larger groups to compensate the difficulty of moving around and organizer large groups. So if you are more than 20 people, check the final fees here. Groups larger than 60 will be divided in two halves, each one with their own guide, and they will be budgeted as 2 separate tours.

*    Chauffeured tours: The fees budgeted for each vehicle size already include the large-group supplement. Groups larger than 50 people will be split in two, as I cannot provide big buses with enough capacity.

 How does the deposit work?

*        Once your tour request has been accepted, and we have agreed on the basic details, I will send you a private link so you can send me your deposit. There you’ll find a “Pay Now” button.

*        Deposit amount: The deposit will be around a 20% of the total amount, and it will be calculated according to the following chart:

TOTAL TOUR FEES

DEPOSIT TO BE SENT

Any service upto 310 euro total

50 euro deposit

311 euro to 440 euro

75 euro deposit

441 euro to 560 euro

100 euro deposit

651 euro to 685 euro

125 euro deposit

686 euro to 815 euro

150 euro deposit

816 euro to 940 euro

175 euro deposit

941 euro to 1065 euro

200 euro deposit

More than 1066 euro

To be calculated upon booking

*        How can I pay this deposit? The “Pay Now” button is powered by Paypal.com and it will take you to a webpage where you’ll be able to pay by credit card, using your own Paypal account or your bank account.

Deposit issues

*  The “Pay Now” site asked for my shipping information. Why do you need my personal data?: I am an official tourguide, and all my accounting is totally legal. VAT is included, I produce an invoice per each service I give, and in Spain invoices must include the client name, full address and tax number (if there is one). That’s why I configured the Pay Now webpage to ask for it. I will not be sharing it with anyone else, and it’ll be for my accounting records only.

*  Couldn’t I pay directly the fullprice, instead of just a deposit?: Paypal charges me a commission for any money I receive. I’m happy to assume this cost for the deposit, however I cannot accept this extra cost when a client wants to send more money for their own convenience. If you want to send more than the required deposit, you’ll have to add a 4.5% to the extra money sent in order to cover the Paypal commission. Please let me know, so I can create a customized “Pay Now” button for your specific case or give you instructions to send it directly from your own Paypal account.

    * Couldn’t I send a bank transfer instead? Yes, you could, and then you’ll be saving the 4.5% Paypal commission. But international bank transfers take several days to arrive, this is why I only accept payments sent by bank transfer if there is at least 2 weeks before the tour takes place. Please make sure to send me a copy of the transfer receipt/prove ASAP, so I know it’s been sent and I can keep an eye on my account. Please note sometimes banks charge commissions for bank transfers: if I happened to receive less money than agreed, the difference will have to be paid on the day of the tour.

*  I don’t like having to send a deposit, can I still book you?  In that case, I suggest you wait until there is only a few days for your tour. If I still have availability for the date you are interested it, I might consider your case and find an alternative solution (see “Last Minute Reservations” below)

*  Last minute reservations and reservations in less than 7 days notice: Although a deposit is usually required, in the case of last minute reservations each case will be studied separately and offered a suitable booking/payment option that might or not include a deposit, depending on the specific situation.

When and how is the balance paid?

*  When do I pay the balance?: The rest of the money is paid on the day of the tour in CASH (euro). AMERICAN DOLLARS, CREDIT CARDS AND TRAVELLER CHEQUES ARE NOT ACCEPTED.

*  Why can’t I pay it by credit card? Unfortunately so far I don’t have the technology to enable this possibility yet.  However, in Barcelona there are lots of ATM’s where you’ll be able to retrieve money with your credit card. By the way make sure you memorize your PIN number as no Spanish ATM will accept a transaction without it, and double check the credit card limit as some times large amounts are automatically blocked by credit card companies when abroad (yes, even when you might have called them to let them know you’ll be traveling!)

*  Why can’t I pay it with Traveler Checks? Unfortunately, in Spain is getting more and more difficult to cash traveler checks as banks don’t seem to trust them much. I’ve spent a lot of time during tours trying to find a bank where my clients could cash theirs… So I totally recommend to avoid them when coming to Spain as you’ll be going through a lot of trouble with them… As for me, no bank would accept to cash me a traveler check that had been bought and signed by a someone else unless that person (i.e. my client) was present.

*  Why don’t you take USD or other currency? The only valid currency in Spain and most countries of the European Union are Euro, and that’s the currency I use to calculate my fees. Since exchange rates are constantly updating it’d be too difficult to be constantly recalculating my tour prices to adjust them to other currencies. Make sure you depart your country with enough euros to pay for your first expenses (taxi from the airport, food and refreshments…). You’ll be able to change your USD or other currency when you get to Barcelona. Money can be exchanged in banks (mornings Mon-Fri only!), exchange points (commissions will be charged) and hotels (commissions charged aswell).

 Who will be my tourguide?

I, Marta, am the main tourguide at Foreverbarcelona.com. Most tours are given by me in person.

*  How can I know if you are available?. The Calendar in my website shows the days when I’m already booked (AM, PM, Evening or Not Available; if empty, it means I’m still available that date). I try to keep it constantly updated, however it might not be 100% accurate and therefore it is to be used as a reference only.

*  Can you provide someone else, if you are already booked?. Most of the times, I’ll be able to offer you a colleague of mine to show you around if I’m already booked. Her/his fee will remain the same as if you were touring with me, and you’ll still have to secure the tour by sending us a deposit through the “Pay Now” button that I’ll be sending you. The rest of the money will be paid cash to the guide, as usual (see here). But please note that for last minute bookings it might be difficult for me to find you someone and in that case I might just give you a few e-mails/cellphone numbers so you can check directly with them. In that case, you’d be dealing directly with other companies/guides with their own fees and you’d be paying them directly according to their own conditions.

*  Which guide would you send? I only work with official Catalonia tourguides that I know in person (some of them are good friends of mine actually). They are experienced, speak great English (or other required language), are fun, knowledgeable and specialize in private tours. I try to recommend only people who’s style is similar to mine, and I try to select the right one for each client depending on the type of tour (history-oriented, family tour…). You can learn more about my regular collaborators here.

*  Are these other guides Foreverbarcelona employees? No. They are freelance professionals. Foreverbarcelona acts only as an intermediary with them to provide you a tour when I’m not available.

How long will my tour last?

This is something we’ll discuss while we are planning your tour. However, there are standard durations that I’ll give you as a reference:

CITY TOURS:

*  A basic tour takes upto 4h. The fee is the same, even if you are planning to have a shorter tour… That’s why I encourage you to use all the time you are actually paying for!

*  Longer tours are available: 5h, 6h or 8h tours. Extra hours are available for a set fee – Feel free to ask!

DAY TRIPS OUT OF TOWN:

*  Halfday excursions take 5h (BRONZE DAYTRIPS) or 6h (IVORY DAYTRIPS).

*  Most fullday tours last 8 hours (SILVER and GOLD DAYTRIPS), but you can book 10h (DIAMOND DAYTRIPS) and 12h (PLATINUM DAYTRIPS) to cover more ground or reach destinations that are further from Barcelona.

Where do we meet? And where do we end?

The meeting and ending point is to be agreed with the client upon reservation, in order to be able to offer a fully customized service.

Check here pick-up and drop-off conditions:

*   Locations within city limits. My fees include pick-up/drop-off points anywhere within the city limits: your hotel or address in town will often work as meeting point, but you can also choose to join me in front of a site that is convenient for our itinerary. And we can finish back to your hotel/apartment, or in some restaurant, or in the last site we visited… Whatever is more convenient for you!

*  Cruise pier. Cruise pier pick-up/drop-off is included in chauffeured city tours if needed. If you are a cruise passenger and book a walking tour we'll set up a meeting point in the city center.

MEETING OUTSIDE OF THE CITY LIMITS

*  Airport and airport hotels. Airport and/or airport hotel pick-up/drop-off is NOT included in the standard fees. The final price is described here.

*  Suburbs and other towns around Barcelona. Pick-up/Drop-off in suburbs are NOT included: fees apply and they will be calculated depending on the location where you need to be picked up.

*  “I’m staying in one of the sites you offer as daytrips out of town, and I need you to come here and show me around there”. If I have to travel out of town to join you there and give you a tour of an area outside Barcelona, I’ll have to charge extra hours to cover the traveling time and expenses. Each case will be specifically budgeted depending on distance and duration of the service.

 How do we move around?

There are several options, depending on the level of comfort you need and your budget:

City Tours:

*  On foot. The center of Barcelona is quite walkable, and some of my tours can be completely made on foot. However, other monuments are too far and must be reached by some other means of transportation. Client must pay for the rides, including any tickets for the guide.

*  Taxi / Cab. Cabs are usually easy to find in the city, and most monuments have taxi stops nearby. They accept up to 4 passengers (3 clients + guide).

*  Public transportation. Our metro network is fast and modern, and our buses are slower but let you enjoy the city landscape better. Buy 10-trips cards (they can be shared by several people) or individual day passes, and please include one for the guide!

*  Your own car, or one you rented. I won’t drive, but I’ll be glad to navigate you. However, in Barcelona it isn’t a great idea, as it is not always easy to find a place to park, and you risk wasting too much time trying to find it. Paying underground parking areas or blue parking meters can be a solution, although here some time will be wasted too walking from the parking place to the site...

*  Private driver. I provide chauffeured tours in Mercedes car, luxury minivans and buses of different sizes. For that I hire the services of a driver company.

Going out of town:

*  Public transportation. Some cases it is possible to reach great sites out of town by train or bus. Contact me, and I’ll inform you of availability, schedules and prices for the tour you are interested in. For other sites, the time waste and/or the ticket prices make it too difficult to do on a guided tour.

*  Your own car, or one you rented. I won’t drive, but I’ll be glad to navigate you. It is a good idea for a day trip, although in most tourist places you must be prepared to pay for parking and possible tolls.

*  Private driver. I provide chauffeured tours in Mercedes car, luxury minivans and buses of different sizes. For that I hire the services of a driver company.

WHY WON’T THE TOURGUIDE DRIVE?

For three main reasons:

  1. LAW. In Spain is illegal working as a driver without a specific professional driving license, which I don’t have.
  2. SAFETY. Unfortunately, I don’t consider my driving skills good enough to be able to drive you around while keeping a nice conversation with you and answering your questions…
  3. QUALITY SERVICE. If I don’t need to care about the traffic, I can dedicate all my attention to you. I can answer questions, talk about the history of the city or the next monument we are going to visit, recommend you restaurants or things to do during the rest of your stay, point at interesting things we might see passing by, use a map to show you how much of the city we are covering in our tour...

 What if I’ve got luggage?

The driver companies charge for luggage handling. If you are starting or finishing your tour at the airport, the cruise pier or train station and you have luggage, a supplement will be applied. This is already included in the fees described here.

Do we need to buy tickets in advance to enter the sites?

Usually NOT. As official tourguides, me and my team are entitled to skip lines in most museums and monuments, so there is no time wasted to get in. Small groups don’t need to buy tickets ahead of time.

However, groups of 9 people or more absolutely need reservations and sometimes even pre-payment (depending on the site). I can provide the contact info of the sites so you can take care of it personally, or I can take care of the reservations (fee applies – Ask me!).

 What about lunch?

Lunch is not included. Client is kindly asked to pay for the guide’s lunch as well as theirs.

  • City tours. In 6h-tours, the client can chose if they want to stop for lunch at some point, or if they’d rather keep touring for the whole time. In 7 to 8h-tours, a stop for lunch will be scheduled around the middle of the day, but the lunch time still counts as touring time (it is not a break).
  • Daytrips out of town. There is no lunch stop for 6h halfday excursions. Lunch will be scheduled for fulldaytrips.

*       Where do we eat? The customer has the right to choose the time and place (large groups must reserve in advance) and must pay for the lunch of the guide as well. I can recommend you many places depending on your favorite food: Spanish tapas, fine cuisine, local food or even just some sandwiches to   go. Use lunchtime to enjoy our gastronomy and feel free to keep asking questions!

*        Why do I charge for the time I’m eating with you?

-         TIME: Even if I’m eating, it’s a time I’ll be there with you. I cannot use it for my own personal use nor give another tour in the meantime, so it has to have a price.

-         WORK: Eating is certainly a pleasant part of my job, but it doesn’t mean breaktime for me! I’ll keep busy translating for you, recommending specialties and of course answering as many questions as you want about our local culture, traditions, habits, history or whatever else interests you. I’m there so… make me work as much as you wish!

*      What about a lunch invitation after the tour? If after a tour you had so much fun that you invite me to join you for lunch… that’s very sweet of you! I’ll probably love to join you (and of course I won’t be charging for that “extra-time” with you), but that’ll depend on my schedule as if I’ve got another appointment later on I might not be able to accept your invitation.

Occasionally, there is people who want to invite me for lunch as they are booking (sometimes weeks or months before we actually meet for the tour). I really appreciate that and it makes me very happy that you are so sure you’ll love your time with me, but please understand that I cannot commit to a lunch invitation beforehand because then I wouldn’t be available for an eventual afternoon tour with someone else… So please remind me of your invitation after the tour is over. I’ll be glad to accept if I’m still available!

WHY FOOD, DRINKS AND TASTINGS ARE NOT INCLUDED IN EPICUREAN TOURS?

Some people are adventurous eaters, while some other would rather stay in their safe comfort area; some love expensive wines, while other prefer beer… These kind of tours should be a treat for you, so it doesn’t make sense that I make you eat a set tapas menu for a certain amount per person or I include set tastings on a food shopping tour. It’s way more fun if you can chose every time what you want to eat, drink and buy.
